Snake plants die from kindness: overwatering is the common cause.

Where to keep it?

Think bright, lightly shaded, but it adapts well.

• Indoors: bright is best; low light is okay (slower growth).
• Outdoors: can go out in summer; avoid harsh midday sun and bring in before cold.

How much watering?

Treat it like a succulent: let it completely dry out.

• Finger test: push 1 inch deep (and deeper if pot is large).
• If there’s moisture, don’t water.
• If dry, water lightly but thoroughly; never leave it sitting in drained water.
• Summer: usually 1x every 2–3 weeks.
• Winter: usually 1x/month or less.

Other care tips

• Don’t mist it—snake plants prefer low humidity.
• If leaves flop, it’s often low light or root issues from overwatering.
